I might come to stand corrected but i seriously doubt this will be a main e-lyte issue. Only surefire way to know is by the use of a magnifying lamp and bringing the probes of various DMM´s,scopes and what have you not to the boards.ītw. The heads for obvious reasons stand up to time better that the combos, and the combos in is not uncommon to see ruptured solderjoints within. An old stocker OTOH will work ´til about hell freezes over. What´s more i for giging guitaris advice them to pick an old GZ-34 up,no matter the condition really as long as it works,as current day n era ones are absolute crap. Whenever i get a CC in the door i either tell the owner in the most anal of ways to just leave the standby switch on or i simply route it out of the equation. If ONE of them wires let go,for whatever reason, you have dangerous voltages just jumping around the amp to hearts desire. This is a VERY dangerous move by Vox and is IMO to even be punishable by law. The practice is downright dangerous and needs to be adressed.Įither by stripping more wiring clean of insulation and in turn wrap the wiring around the prongs of the socket,OR by resolute replacement of the socket for the correct unit. That in its own right, but the issue at hand is that absolutely NOTHING except the solderjoint per se holds the wiring to said socket for SOME of these units. On a positive note, I would completely, unabashedly recommend the Gold over the stock speaker. Time to take it in to be checked out? (Bad solder joint fails when it gets hot?)
Where I'm seeking advice and your opinions:Īny chance that the rectifier died (again) although I never used standby? I turned it off and then back on and it had sound again. Everything was fine for an hour or two until. The Vox sounded pretty much perfect and how I had imagined.

So great, in fact, that I put in a Celestion Gold (great now sounds even greater!).Īfter a couple month hiatus (rehearsal space was torn down, new one was delayed), we played at full volume last night and I got to turn up the AC30 (it is a loud amp!). That all sounded like what people have described as the known issue of standby killing the rectifier tube.Ī full retube later (with JJs), the amp seemed to be doing great (albeit at home volumes). Turning it off for a moment and then back on seemed to make it okay for another few minutes. The amp would sound great for anywhere from five to twenty minutes, make a fizzle sound and go quiet. It had been crapping out fairly regularly and he just wanted it gone, so to speak. A while back, I got a Vox AC30cc1 (the 1x12 model) from a friend for a really good price.
